We are a group of 26 Year 9 students in the Reo rua bilingual unit at Bay of Islands College. Bay of Islands College is located in a small New Zealand town called Kawakawa. One of the things Kawakawa is famous for is being the only town with a train running through it on state highway 1.
We are the teina of the Reo Rua unit and our class is in Totara House. We uphold the values of Totara which are respect, to be responsible, resilience, manaakitanga.
Everyday starts in the marae with taumata. Everyone takes turns at leading Taumata which is where we say karakia, sing a waiata and then someone stands up to present their mihi.
We always bless our food with a karakia and sometimes we say karakia before and at the end of our lessons.
We have whitu kaiako plus our option kaiako. We learn tika which is Māori performing arts where we learn songs and kapahaka.
We share our learning here on our class blog and invite you to leave comments.
